The passing of my mum has kept me solemn. Much to my dislike, flashes of her that I can clearly recount now are the conversation I had with her as she made her last trip to NUH; the touch of her forehead to check her temperature; and the joke we made for drinking porridge from the cup. I ponder for God’s answers to some of the life’s hardest questions- why has that happened and where has she gone? Her sudden departure leaves no closure for me.
But this is not all that she has delivered with her death. Somehow, the spirit of joy powers over the pain of our loss as she passed away peacefully.
My mum’s endless passion for learning is entrenched in us. She can never stop haunting us with her need to update herself. She bestowed miracles with her willpower. In awe of her many achievements, her funeral was full of gratitude than grievances.
We have always been proud of her, for she is truly exemplary to the many roles she played and still playing.
To our families and friends, for the countless compassion and sympathy offered to us, we can never thank you enough. We sincerely appreciate those who have been praying for us and we know, to everything there is a season.
A time for every purpose under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die;
A time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill and a time to heal ...
A time to weep and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn and a time to dance ...
A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to lose and a time to seek;
A time to rend and a time to sew;
A time to keep silent and a time to speak;
A time to love and a time to hate;
A time for war and a time for peace.
~ Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
As we share the legacy of my mum with you, may we give thanks to God for this celebration of life.
Joanne
