Got this SMS from Cousin this morning. Here it goes ... ...
看背影就知道;
听脚步就知道;
看笑容就知道;
看你就知道;
Just realized this is only the second Mothers' Day since Mum had left us. But somehow, it feels like it has been years since she had left.
Last night, Sis and I were just chatting about one of the opposition candidates, Teo Soh Lung (Yuhua). Teo's smile, hand shakes and speech are such resemblances of Mum's. We are still regularly reminded of Mum's steadfastness and unyielding manners in our daily lives. Be it at work or at home. Her resolute never fails to amaze us. How could she put up with some of these, I should say, nonsense (haha) all these while. Well, that question alone is enough to keep us going! Isn't this legacy amazing?!
I could resonate very well with today's ST article "For a happy birthday, keep it simple" by Lee Wei Ling (Think, the Sunday Times, May 8th 2011). That was the way how we were brought up too; and how we really like our kids to be brought up .
Sis and I always ask, "Is there something wrong with us or with the rest?" whenever we shrug off those not-so-nice behaviours around us. Lee's column reaffirms what we believe in is not unique or insane. There are no right or wrong in how one chooses to celebrate birthdays. But Mum has taught us birthday is just any other day in life. The simplicities of life are, sometimes, the best joys in life too. Guess so long we continue to shine our armours, we will meet more people like us. Didn't they say we are mirrors of one another? :p
Happy Mothers' Day to all out there!
